Spray foam insulation is an excellent alternative to traditional insulation materials such as fiberglass, rock wool and cellulose. Spray foam insulation is durable and long-lasting, resistant to heat loss, wood rot and mold. It dramatically reduces outside noise entering your home or business.
Spray foam insulation is made when two materials, an isocyanate resin and a polyol, are heated to create an expanding foam. This foam is then applied to a particular area. The liquid quickly turns into thick, dense foam insulation. It protects from heat loss, mold, wood rot, and dampness. It does not degrade, break down, or lasts forever.
The most important characteristic of spray foam insulation is its ability to create an “air seal”, which results within an airtight building envelope. Air sealing saves heat in your home and reduces utility bills.
Insulation in attics is almost always sprayed using open cell spray foam. This allows moisture to escape from your structure. Irish building regulations require that a 50mm gap be maintained between the roof deck, felt, and the top of insulation material.
