Spray foam insulation provides a superior option to traditional insulation materials, such as rock wool or fiberglass, cellulose, or polystyrene panels. Spray foam insulation is durable and long-lasting, resistant to heat loss, wood rot and mold. This reduces the sound pollution in the environment that surrounds your home or office.
Spray foam insulation can be made from two materials: isocyanate (a polyol resin) and is gently heated. They then come together at a tip of a sprayer to form an expanding mousse that is applied to a certain area. The liquid quickly turns into thick, dense foam insulation. It is resistant to heat loss, wood rot and mold, lasts for a lifetime, and doesn’t degrade or go bad.
Spray foam insulation has the unique ability to form an “air sealing” which creates an airtight environment within a building. Air sealing has the advantage of preventing heat escape from your house. This will reduce utility bills and keep your home cool during the hottest months.
Insulation in attics is almost always sprayed using open cell spray foam. This allows moisture to escape from your structure. Irish building regulations require that a 50mm gap be maintained between the roof deck, felt, and the top of insulation material.
